First, some French students present Carmen of Mérimée and the show they prepared for their penpals
Then, students are grouped by country, French students stay with their penpals and teachers and students present the classical story they chose to French students in each group. Each country’s teachers, French teachers and students help students to write a theatrical dialogue from their classical story.
Finally, they think about how to stage their text : movements, gestures, tones, music, and make set elements, costumes and props so as to perform the play they created.
Foreign students perform their play in front of teachers and students from all countries and French students vote for their favourite show. The winning group receives the CD of Stromae, because his music called “Carmen” was taken from the original Opera, and was used as one of the main music for the students’ play. It is a very modern way to listen to Carmen. The winning group also receives a DVD of Carmen, by George Bizet, as it is a masterpiece which was created after the short story by Mérimée. Moreover some excerpts of his Opera were used for the students play. Therefore, the winning students will always keep in mind their own play, and will be able to compare it to other works related to Carmen

Enzo et Victoire

Before the day of the representation at the theater we were a little bit stressed because we were afraid not to have time to do a lot of things and not to see a lot our penpals. During this activity we didn't learn a lot of things because we had already done almost the same work in November and December and during the rehearsal of Carmenwe weren’t with our penpals and we just rehearsed but it was nice and fun.

We won't change our attitude after that because we haven't seen things that made change our point of view.

Camille

Before the activity, we wanted to help the penmates to write their play.

During the writing of the penmate’s play, they wrote their play without us and afterwards we helped them to prepare the stage, costumes, musics, placements... During our play, the theatre were full. It was the achievement of a project. It was really funny.

After the help to our penmates, we saw them play and we were really happy to be able to help them. After our piece all people congratulated us.

Each country had to choose a book which represented their country to create with us a play. The Slovakians had already created the dialogue so we helped them rehearse. We also created a judge wig for the representation and danced Slovakians dances.

In the afternoon, at 1pm30 we went to the theatre to rehearse our play and change some mistakes with the songs.

At 4pm, the four countries performed their play. And the French had to vote for the play they preferred. Slovakia won. At 6pm we were at the theatre to prepare ourselves for our performance. Then the students from the Middle School played. Their representation was about migration. We came back home at 7pm30.

At the beginning I was quite nervous about writing, even if it was just a short, an entire in the spent of just a few hours. It was challenging, by the end of the activity our penpals were handling themselves on their own while we made props. We watched the four plays and then we voted for the best one. Thus, we had a lot of fun helping our classmates around even if it meant making simple devil horns.

Angel, Lotie

There were two groups and each country had to write a play taken from famous plays of their country. They had the morning to explain the play and start working on it. In the afternoon they had to write the play. And at 4pm they played it and we had to choose the best one. And Slovakia won! It was so interesting and so funny !

Ambre, Lucie

In the morning, before the activity started, we were very stressed and nervous. We thought the plays of the penpals would be boring and embarrassing. During the activity, plays of the penpals were funny and the actors played very well. The best play was Slovakia’s play, because we understood the entire story and the costumes were beautiful. In the evening we presented our play in front of our teachers, parents and penpals. Everything went well and this activity allowed us to be more self confident.

This article is about an activity we did on the 2ndof April thanks to Erasmus.

At the beginning of the activity, the Finnish people and us were given the topic of the activity which was creating a theater play that our exchange students would have to play.

When we heard that we had to create a play, we immediatly thought that it was going to be boring, uninteresting and probably embarassing for our Finnish exchange students who would have to play it.

The theater play was about a popular Finnish fable which is entitled « the bear as a judge » or « karhu tuomarina » in Finnish. After a few minutes of brainstorming, the Finnish shared with us what they had come up with. In order to perform the play, we had to create a plausible story with dialogues and we also had to make costumes to help spectators understand which character is played by which performer. After a few hours of working on the play with our exchange students, we had to go to the Bâteau Feu in order to rehearse the play we had to perform later this day. When we finished rehearsing, we went back to high school where we watched the play our exchange students had finished while we were rehearsing. We then voted for the play we found was the best. Unfortunately, the Finnish people ended up second to last.
