The class has studied with their French teacher for one month a short novel written by Prosper Mérimée: Carmen. They could watch a few scenes from a Bizet’s opera (and 2 months after, a filmed projection of the opera staged byCalixtoBieito) and the music clip of one of Stromae‘ssong. Then, they were divided into 4 groups, each one worked on a particular topic :
-the meeting with someone unknown
-a hero so jealous that he can kill the woman he loves
-a bohemian heroin
-a femme fatale
After that, the French teacher explained they had to produce a theaterscene, by respecting several criteria of writing, especially
-using some sentences from the Mérimée’sstory
-dealing with the main theme in Stromae’ssong : social networks
-writing in English, French, Spanish or the 3 languages.
Finally they will have to think about how to stage the text they will have written and all their productions will be sent to a director who will put on their show.
Students rewrite a well-known myth ; they will play in the staging of a text they have written themselves and they will be able to explaintotheir pen pals how to rewrite a well-known story from their own country.
