The aim of this activity is to allow students to work together, to think about the identity of each person and if it could be good if we are all the same. The idea to reach out to student who feel isolated, lonely and not confident in themselves was very present… to disturb pupils. They discussed about who are they, what is their talents, who has been bullying. Students firstly analyse different song “I’m nor a label – I m not black or white” and reflect about how they analyse prejudice, discrimination, intolerance. The idea is to understand where might we learn intolerance from?
The teacher talked about social networks as the comparison between life of each students. The topic about appearance and no reason to make them miserable prove that some attitudes have got no sense
After the discussion students had to listen the song and read the lyrics “Beautiful” Christine Aguilera. They had to describe the feel after listening, then again when analysing the meanings behind the lyrics (Physical appearance, what is to be beautiful…). With students from different international groups working together, this give participants a further sense of belonging to a new group, and share about the bad image they have of themselves. It give them further self-confidence and self-esteem as well as developing unlikely friendships.
Students created their own original song which is performed and recorded to be shared on the blog.
They also share their experience on the blog. Additionally, the lyrics are displayed in the school for people to read.
Each pupil feels better after this workshop and make them conscious that we can be confident with physical appearance and be happy to be as our individual personality is.
