Students with their French teacher study and compare poems, paintings, sculptures, monuments, music pieces, songs… from Antiquity to the 18th century. They identify the main characteristics of the literary and artistic movements of that period. Then, they have to use the skills they have acquired by doing the same work on poems and pictures composed in the modern era, that they chose by themselves.
Reading different poems on water, from the 19th century to the present day and from different countries
Performing a formal analysis of poems
Identifying the symbolism of water in each poem
Associating poems with pictures of different kinds
Finding arguments to justify one’s personal point of view
Students create an anthology of ten poems from the 19th century to the present day and 10 pictures that illustrate each of these poems. They analyze the poems, justify the links between poems and pictures and finally they argue the choice of their favorite poems. Different pages from these anthologies are selected and collected on posters for an exhibition in the school hall in the context of the Erasmus days.
