Students had spent time over the week discussing recipe ideas in multi nationality groups. The brief was to choose an idea or amalgamate ideas from members of the group before going to the local Market and then apply the lessons they had learned over the course of the week about sustainability, supporting local producers and considering the impact of your buying choices on both health and the community. They had to stick within budget and ensue that they had the ingredients for their next activity at school.
Students worked well in their groupings and selected a variety of recipes from across the Erasmus countries represented. There was much discussion about lessons learnt in La Boqueria earlier in the week and the students interacted well with the market stall holders, asking about where the produce came from and being mindful of their choices. It was interesting to see that the number of market stalls in the market had shrunk over time, however a good number of people were using this as a meeting point as well as somewhere were the food quality was high and the costs were low. The students left the market with fresh produce, inspired by the colours and products they had seen
